The theme of this bike ride is about reminiscing of the structures we have lost to demolition.  Our business Districts are seeing more and more  gaping holes in our street walls that once housed vibrant businesses and were instrumental in creating a close-knit community. Most of these former building sites had architecturally significant structures.   What they contributed to Rockford’s growth  and development will be discussed on the tour. At each of our stops, photos of that Architectural past will be part of the story. We will also discuss how much money these open lots have cost all of us. Demolition has seemed to be the easy way out, but the economic consequences have been devastating. The tour will leave you better informed in how you see your own community.  The tour is approximately  5.5 miles in length,  has some hills to navigate, and will be 2 hours in length.

Donations are welcome. Participants are not required to sign-up in advance. The tour is guided by knowledgeable host, Gary Anderson, AIA, Studio GWA founder.

“The purpose of these tours is to inform, educate and create a greater appreciation for the craftsmanship of these historic structures that have withstood the test of time. By exploring the businesses that once occupied them and the changes they’ve undergone, we gain insight into our past to better understand the present and make more informed decisions for the future,” said Gary Anderson, AIA, Studio GWA founder.
