Downtown Entertainment District

What is the Downtown Rockford Entertainment District?

The Downtown Entertainment District is an exciting initiative created by the City of Rockford and the River District Association in the heart of downtown.

This innovative concept allows residents and visitors aged 21+ to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere while savoring their favorite beverages from participating bars and restaurants. Sip on a refreshing beer, wine, or cocktail in designated branded cups as you explore the clearly marked and specified geographic area in the River District. Highlighted in yellow below, the boundaries of the Downtown Rockford Entertainment District stretch east to west between North Church and North 3rd Streets and north to south between Cedar and Hill Streets. There are additional boundaries to exclude specific parks and residential areas as the City trials the impact of the Open Container District on downtown.

Not only is this one of the first Open Container districts in Illinois, but it also provides a safe and enjoyable outdoor space for socializing, shopping, and embracing the local culture. Cheers to an unforgettable experience in Rockford’s Entertainment paradise!

Entertainment District Details

Businesses with a valid liquor license within the Downtown Entertainment District may permit a patron to carry one (1) alcoholic drink from their premises. No participating licensed business shall allow a patron, guest or member to exit its licensed premises with more than one open container of alcoholic beverage.
All alcoholic drinks must be carried in an approved container only, which shall have approved branding.
Alcoholic beverages shall not be brought into the Downtown Entertainment District from home or any establishment other than those within the boundaries of the Downtown Entertainment District.
Alcoholic beverages may not be removed from the Downtown Entertainment District boundaries.
Alcoholic beverages shall not be consumed on any street, parking lot, or in any parks or green spaces.
Participating businesses within the district will have one of the signs below to indicate their participation in the district.
