ROCKFORD, IL November 30, 2017 – The holiday season is upon us and the River District Association, along
with the Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and Shop Downtown Rockford, wants to invite people
to support and shop local in downtown Rockford this year. This year’s event series offers opportunities for
residents and visitors to enjoy and support local shopping and lots of fun in downtown Rockford during the
Merry & Bright season.
“Our downtown shop owners continuously invest in our community by participating in events. They see the
value in coming together to support efforts encouraging people to shop local this holiday season,” said Leah
Tuneberg, River District Association Executive Director. “Dedication and event participation by our shop
owners helps drive our economy and keeps dollars in our downtown thus creating a stronger city center.”
Shop for Kids – Help us fill the Empty Stocking
Shop Downtown Rockford this holiday season and participating businesses will donate 2% of purchases to
the Rockford Register Star’s Empty Stocking Club, which provides toys to children in need. The kick-off
weekend, December 1-3, has downtown businesses encouraging shoppers to make their “wish lists” which
shops will keep on file. Follow-up by sending in your husband/family/friends and they’ll know exactly what’s
on your list. How much easier can it get?
