ROCKFORD, Illinois – This Saturday marks the third installment of the 2018 Shop the Blocks summer
season in downtown. School House Rock the Blocks is from 12 – 5 pm, Saturday, Aug. 11, in and
around the City Market Pavilion.

The River District is giving families one more trip to the beach before school starts without leaving
downtown Rockford. There will be custom built sandboxes by the Millennium Fountain near City Market
Pavilion for kids of all ages to play in. Some beach toys will be provided. Talented teenage musician,
Adem Dalipi, of Belvidere, will headline the entertainment under the pavilion. Chick-fil-A is giving out
free sandwiches to the first 150 guests. The River District will also have supersized versions of Connect 4
and Jenga for kids play. The Forest City Tennis Center will also have a tennis court set up for kids to play
on during part of the event.

“The start of school is right around the corner,” said Sean Muserallo, River District Association Board
President. “We want to give families the option to take one more summer vacation without leaving town.
Enjoy the beach we’ve created, but also the sea of restaurants and shops we have downtown for you.”
The River District is also pleased to announce the YMCA of Rock River Valley, Midway Village and
Rockford Park District will be there with more fun and games and great information for parents about
their after school programs and kid-friendly events for the upcoming school year.
There is no entry fee for the public to attend School House Rock the Blocks. In true Shop the Blocks
fashion, our downtown shops and restaurants will be running sales and promotions exclusive to this
event. Check our Facebook page for more information about specific promotions. So head downtown and
grab a meal, do some shopping, and hit the “beach!”
