This year’s event is a week long, features community focus: ‘United We Dine. United We Shop.’

ROCKFORD, Illinois – The River District Association (RDA) announces the second annual Love the Blocks in downtown Rockford. Launched through Rockford Community Partners, Love the Blocks follows along in similar style to the popular Shop the Blocks and Spook the Blocks events by inviting people to enjoy shopping, dining, gallery hopping, and entertainment in downtown Rockford during this free event for the community.

This year, the River District Association is partnering with the United Way of Rock River Valley to offer residents a chance to shop local and give back to an agency providing meaningful support to our community.

“Our donors lead the fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every resident in every local neighborhood,” said Paul Logli, President and CEO of United Way of Rock River Valley. “It couldn’t be easier to give back to your community during the week of Valentine’s Day – just simply shop and eat at the places you love in downtown Rockford.”

United We Shop: Starting Monday, February 11, and ending Saturday, February 16, participating Love the Blocks retailers will have heart-themed Tic-Tac-Toe boards for customers to get stamped by a store employee. Once a customer visits three different stores and collects three stamps in a row, they can leave the card with that participating retailer and be entered into a drawing for a gift basket.

United We Dine: On Saturday, February 16, people can give back to the United Way just by eating out downtown at a participating Love the Blocks restaurant. These restaurants will be giving back a portion of their proceeds from this night only to the United Way on behalf of the River District Association.

Anyone can Text To Give to the United Way that week by texting the phrase ‘Love the Blocks’ to 41444. All who do on behalf of the River District Association, will also be entered into win a gift basket.

“We invite people from near and far to love our blocks and shower their sweetheart with special gifts from local retailers and dine in one-of-a-kind restaurants all while supporting the United Way, which provides critical services that make our River District and beyond a better place to live,” said Missy Minnaert, executive director of the River District Association.
