ROCKFORD, Illinois – Outdoor shopping and dining are right around the corner this summer when you Shop the Blocks in downtown Rockford! The River District Association is pleased to announce the launch of Shop the Blocks Weekend Edition in 2019. Held the third full weekend of June, July and August, Shop the Blocks is an event that draws visitors to restaurants and retailers for special deals and promotions downtown.

“Business owners are the heart of downtown Rockford,” said Missy Minnaert, River District Association Executive Director. “We are helping promote their unique products and services all summer long through an integrated marketing campaign.”

Downtown businesses will have deals and local restaurants will have specials going on. Eat, shop and play in the River District for our Shop the Blocks 2019 series all day during each participating store’s business hours on the following days:

Friday, June 21 – Saturday, June 22

Friday, July 19 – Saturday, July 20

Friday, August 16 – Saturday, August 17

Some of the participating stores this month include: 510 Threads, Rocktown Adventures, Prairie Street Brewing Company, The Underground Gallery, CJ’s Public House, Ground Floor Skateboards, Minglewood Boutique and Northern Illinois Optical.

Some of the discounts include $1 off craft drafts at CJ’s, Buy One Get One Half Off (BOGOHO) at Minglewood and 20% off all summer apparel and camping gear at Rocktown Adventures. Participating businesses will also have limited edition “River District Association” shopping bags they’ll be handing out free of charge to customers with a purchase during the special shopping weekend. See each participating store for details.

“We’re asking people to buy local and support local businesses,” said Minnaert. “If you spend $100 at a local business, roughly $68 stays in our local economy. If you spend the same at a large business, only $43 stays in the local economy. Be ‘Proud to be Local’ with your shopping!”
